The recent pro-Palestine rally organized by Jamaat-e-lslami’s youth wing Solidarity Youth Movement in Malappuram, Kerala, featuring a virtual address by HAMAS leader Khaled Mashal, has sparked a heated debate in India. The rally, advocating for the Palestinian cause, raised concerns about the involvement of non-state actors in international affairs. This incident prompts a critical examination of the delicate balance between supporting legitimate causes and ensuring national security, especially in light of HAMAS’s designation as a terrorist organization by the United Nations.
The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) stands as the recognized authority representing the Palestinian people globally. However, HAMAS’s illegal seizure of authority in the 1970s has led to a distorted representation of the Palestinian aspirations. It is crucial to emphasize that HAMAS does not genuinely echo the true desires of the Palestinian populace. The recent rally in Kerala, marked by provocative statements, further highlights the divergence between peaceful resolutions and extremist ideologies. Indians, while representing the aspirations of India as a responsible member of the international community, must tread carefully concerning its engagements with designated terrorist organizations like HAMAS. The participation of Indian citizens in events that promote extremist views raises concerns about national security and internal harmony. India’s diverse fabric, encompassing various religions and ideologies, thrives on unity and understanding. It is imperative to underscore that conflicts in distant lands, such as the Israel-HAMAS conflict, do not-jeopardize the safety or harmony of Muslims in India. The democratic ethos of India ensures the protection of every citizen’s rights, fostering an environment of inclusivity and mutual respect.
While exploring the issue from an Islamic angle, it becomes evident that fostering peace and harmony should be the overarching objective. Islam, as a religion, promotes peace, compassion, and understanding. Acts that incite violence or unrest go against the very essence of Islam, an important tenet knowingly ignored by the organisers of the rally in Kerala with video address by a HAMAS leader. It is essential for individuals and organizations within the Islamic community to promote dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence.
India stands firm in its commitment to peace, unity, and national security. While supporting legitimate causes and empathizing with the struggles of others, the nation must prioritize its citizens’ safety and harmony. Engaging with the global community while adhering to international norms and promoting understanding among diverse communities, remains India’s guiding principle. The recent incident in Kerala serves as a reminder of the importance of discernment, ensuring that our actions contribute positively to global peace without compromising our internal stability. As a democratic nation India remains steadfast, upholding the rule of law and the principles enshrined in its constitution, safeguarding the interests and well-being of every citizen, regardless of their background or beliefs.
